Komutel and Avaya, in close collaboration with Combat Networks, Bell Canada and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has conducted the first Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) test call transfer in Canada.

NG9-1-1 carries the promise of more effective call handling for public safety personnel with the goal of improving outcomes in emergency situations, including those that are life-threatening.  ​NG9-1-1 is a cross-industry initiative that strengthens and improves how 9-1-1 calls are handled. It reimagines the response possibilities of emergency services, allowing responding agencies the opportunity to have greater context, smoother workflows, and improved operating efficiency.

B.C.’s 9-1-1 system one step closer to modernization

Vancouver, B.C. – April 27, 2021—E-Comm, in close collaboration with its technology partners at TELUS, Avaya, Komutel and NICE, has successfully received and transferred a voice call in a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) test environment. NG9-1-1 is a Canada-wide initiative to evolve and modernize existing 9-1-1 services to adapt to emerging technology while ensuring the life-saving system remains effective, secure, and resilient.

Komutel’s partner Netagen Communication Networks has been selected by Toronto Fire Service to provide NG9-1-1 Call Handling System. The solution will include the full suite of Komutel NG9-1-1 Call Handling Solutions including SIT911i3, the NG9-1-1 multimedia call taker softphone successfully tested during the Canadian NG9-1-1 trials.

Ontario Modernizing its Emergency Response System

TORONTO — The Ontario government is investing $208 million over three years to enhance the province’s 9-1-1 emergency response system.  The funding will enable significant technology and infrastructure upgrades to support the transition to a new 9-1-1 communications system know as Next Generation 9-1-1.
